I'll call/txt you, and Elizabeth when I realize I've had an epic experience.

Maybe it will happen during the GDR this year. Please don't be mad at me if I call you guys at 2am from some random town telling you about my epic experience.

I definitely know that I consider myself a Adventure-seeker

GOOD READ!!!

Peace
DeannaDouBt KILLS DReaMshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14355846621099953172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558368124745892353.post-18641184560909615422009-01-22T09:16:00.000-08:002009-01-22T09:16:00.000-08:00just had the skinny tire roadie out playing in the...just had the skinny tire roadie out playing in the snow. a little doubletrack action for good measure. couple more shots if interested.fxdwhlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580920089772180379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558368124745892353.post-42191448943055955762008-07-06T12:57:00.000-07:002008-07-06T12:57:00.000-07:00See http://bike.duque.net/mixed-terrain-how-to.htm...See http://bike.duque.net/mixed-terrain-how-to.htm and http://bike.duque.net/ride-calendar.htm

Especially "epic", and by that I mean "hard": http://bike.duque.net/assets/files/SF-Mixedterrain-RutaLocaRandonnee.pdfjim ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02161517903295268167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558368124745892353.post-13921179409899365912008-04-08T16:34:00.000-07:002008-04-08T16:34:00.000-07:00I certainly don't have the distances (yet) that re...I certainly don't have the distances (yet) that red tail hawk does, I do frequently head out and see a trail or road and think "I wonder where that goes?", very often.

I've ridden my road bikes on MTB trails, some with some pretty technical parts while my brother and other friends used full-susp. MTBs. In the rocky sections I was slower as I had to pay attention to my line or carry the bike, but I caught back on at almost every incline.

Bonking hard, barely getting to a little family-run gas station/village pizza shop was a treat. I could barely pedal as it was, and fell down in the gravel parking lot trying to get unclipped. I bet they got their laughs at the lycra-clad dork who couldn't walk too well. 64 oz. of Gatorade later I could make it home. Yak. But those are the things, like red tail hawk said, that you remember.

Does anyone do a dirt-road/off-road ride that is more of a club ride than race? I'd like to see more of that. Single-track 200K's? I think it'd be a hoot.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558368124745892353.post-49131151952723740762008-04-08T11:54:00.000-07:002008-04-08T11:54:00.000-07:00Tails I consider Epic.....600K with 106 degree te...Tails I consider Epic.....

600K with 106 degree temps at 90% humidity BOTH DAYS...

400K while I felt like throwing up before I ever started, could not eat, I finished it on 6 cokes and half an energy drink! THAT was epic!!

Furnace Creek 2004 with the wind that was second in severity to none I have ever felt either before or since! 77 miles of pushing as hard as I could to go 7 miles an hour... Even on the down hills.. THAT was epic! (My only DNF that I put into the "Epic" category..)

I will say that the rides I remembered with fondness are the ones where I REALLY WANTED to DNF, but stuck it out, sucked it up and pushed on to finish.. Of the ones where I finished first, none fall into the "epic" category...

200k in 2006... It was 57 and rain to start, the temperature dropped to 32 with Sleet, Ice, Snow, along with a good wind that was on us both directions! Many DNF'd that day... I rode with Lew (one of the Pac Rats) Meyer and Doug CS pup Levy... While Doug was complaining that his Eyelids were frozen, I complained about the trucks splashing slosh all over the back of my legs, Lew Meyer complained about NOTHING! LOL THAT was epic!

Had my Flesche team finished in 2007, That would have been epic, because we rode through the 22 degree farenheit night, stopping every 15 minutes while one of my team mates was playing with his friggin generator lights that he did not put together right in the first place! UGGGGH would have been epic, but I can't bring myself to bestow that honor on that ride despite the fact that there was 22,000 feet of climbing in 400k worth of Flesche....

Believe it or not, BMB does not even fall in the "epic" category! Despite the fact that it was the longest "event" that I finished, and despite the fact that I felt really crappy at Ludlow, and despite the fact that we had heavy wind coming across Lake Champlain on the way back, it did not have that "epic" feel to me.. That suffering beyond all comprehension, yet still pushing on. Finding that little bit left inside for that next pedal stroke that brings us just a little bit closer to the finish line.. THAT is what makes an epic!

At least in my eyes....Red Tail Hawkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10655824469510531989noreply@blogger.com
